Week 5 Start/Sits – TNF & 6pm Sunday

By Andy Goddard @Godsy1985

Week 4 in the NFL was a fun one for fantasy league players. With the Tennessee/Pittsburgh game postponed and New England at Kansas City shrouded in doubt due to Cam Newton’s positive Covid test, setting a line up was more challenging than ever.

The 2020 NFL season is one like no other and you need to be ready to make some last minute changes to keep ahead of the curve. So who should you start/sit in week 5? Let’s take a look.

Don’t forget to keep your #EyesPeeled for tomorrow’s podcast where we dive into a full preview of the weekend games and make sure you head over to Twitter (@F10YFantasy) for “Start ‘em, sit ‘em, GIF ‘EM!”.

Spoiler alert: Drew Sample is a start ‘em!

Thursday Night Football

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Chicago Bears

Start of the Game

Ronald Jones (RB) – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

With Leonard Fournette missing Sunday’s game with an ankle injury, Ronald Jones was the clear lead back for the Bucs in their 38-31 win win over the Chargers. Jones rushed for 111 yards and caught six of his nine targets for a further 17 yards. With Fournette due to miss this weeks clash against the Bears, Jones should have another good day against a Chicago team that have struggled against the run.

Other Notable Starts

Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Mike Evans (WR), Tom Brady (QB), Rob Gronkowski (TE), D/ST

Chicago Bears – Allen Robinson (WR)

Sit of the Game

David Montgomery (RB) – Chicago Bears

The Bears offensive line is certainly not helping Montgomery at the moment. He has had a lukewarm start to the 2020 season and this week he will face a stout Bucs run defence who haven’t allowed an opposing running back to rush for more than 59 yards in a game! Bears head coach, Matt Nagy, has also shown a propensity to ditch the run early.

Other Notable Sits

Tampa Bay Buccaneers – N/A

Chicago Bears – Jimmy Graham (TE), D/ST

Sunday Early Games

LA Rams @ Washington Football Team

Start of the Game

Antonio Gibson (RB) – Washington Football Team

Gibson had a breakout performance in week 4 with 82 yards receiving and 46 yards rushing, plus a touchdown. He was the lead back for Washington and will command most of the workload against the Rams. The Rams defence is good against the pass, holding the Giants to just 3.9 yards per attempt in week 4, so Washington should look to run the ball often and Gibson will be the man.

Other Notable Starts

LA Rams – Cooper Kupp (WR), Robert Woods (WR), D/ST

Washington Football Team – Terry McLaurin (WR)

Sit of the Game

Jared Goff (QB) – LA Rams

Goff posted modest numbers in week 4 completing 25 of 32 passes for 200 yards and a touchdown in a 17-9 win over the Giants. The Rams have a favourable matchup this week against the Washington Football Team but they will be spending more time running the ball than throwing it which will hinder Goff’s numbers.

Other Notable Sits

LA Rams – Darrell Henderson (RB) & Malcolm Brown (RB) – If you can figure out which one will get most of the carries then move to a start em’

Washington Football Team – D/ST

Buffalo Bills @ Tennessee Titans

Start of the Game

Devin Singletary (RB) – Buffalo Bills

Singletary has been improving after an average start to the 2020 season. After two good performances in a row he will look to continue that trend against an average Titans run defence. Zack Moss will be back in the mix soon so Singletary will need to keep improving if he wants to be the Bills RB1.

Other Notable Starts

Buffalo Bills – Josh Allen (QB), Stefon Diggs (WR), John Brown (WR), D/ST

Tennessee Titans – Derrick Henry (RB), A.J. Brown (WR), Jonnu Smith (TE)

Sit of the Game

Ryan Tannehill (QB) – Tennessee Titans

Tannehill is playing well, in fact you may look at his numbers and wonder why he is a sit this week. The Bills defence, that is why! Tannehill thrives when throwing off play action and the Bills have the ability to take away the run. With out play action passes, Tannehill struggles.

Other Notable Sits

Buffalo Bills – N/A

Tennessee Titans – D/ST

Philadelphia Eagles @ Pittsburgh Steelers

Start of the Game

Diontae Johnson (WR) – Pittsburgh Steelers

Johnson is out of concussion protocol so is good to go on Sunday against the Eagles. He has started the season well with 149 yards and a touchdown before the Covid enforced bye week. He should be kept away from corner back Darius Slay and could become Big Ben’s first read against a good Eagles defence pass rush.

Other Notable Starts

Philadelphia Eagles – Miles Sanders (RB)

Pittsburgh Steelers – Ben Roethlisberger (QB), James Conner (RB), JuJu Smith-Schuster (WR), D/ST

Sit of the Game

Carson Wentz (QB) – Philadelphia Eagles

Another week and another pick as a sit em’ for Wentz! Yes he may have improved against a banged up 49ers team but do you really trust him against a well rested, nasty defence, on the road?! I don’t!!

Other Notable Sits

Philadelphia Eagles – Zach Ertz (TE), D/ST

Pittsburgh Steelers – N/A

Arizona Cardinals @ New York Jets

Start of the Game

Kyler Murray (QB) – Arizona Cardinals

Murray has scored at least 21 fantasy points in every game so far this season and is currently ranked as QB5 in the league. With an average of 66.3 yards per game, he leads the league in rushing from the quarterback position and this week he is up against the Jets! Murray should be throwing the ball more in this matchup as the Jets have given up seven touchdown passes already.

Other Notable Starts

Arizona Cardinals – Kenyan Drake (RB), DeAndre Hopkins (WR), D/ST

New York Jets – N/A

Sit of the Game

Jamison Crowder (WR) – New York Jets

Crowder is the best receiver in the Jets lineup but, with Sam Darnold out and Joe Flacco under centre, you want to sit him this week. The Jets average just 16.3 points per game and the Cardinals have allowed the third fewest fantasy points to opposing receivers this year.

Other Notable Sits

Arizona Cardinals – N/A

New York Jets – All of them!!

Las Vegas Raiders @ Kansas City Chiefs

Start of the Game

Patrick Mahomes (QB) – Kansas City Chiefs

Mahomes struggled against the Patriots defence in week 4 but still managed to throw for 236 yards and two touchdowns. This week is a divisional matchup against the Raiders and their below-average defence. Mahomes will light it up again in this one!

Other Notable Starts

Las Vegas Raiders – Josh Jacobs (RB), Henry Ruggs (WR), Hunter Renfrow (WR)

Kansas City Chiefs – Clyde Edwards-Helaire (RB), Tyreek Hill (WR), Travis Kelce (TE), D/ST

Sit of the Game

Derek Carr (QB) – Las Vegas Raiders

Carr has been accurate so far in 2020 but it hasn’t always meant big fantasy numbers. This week he is facing a very underrated defence that are averaging three sacks per game and 1.8 takeaways. The Raiders also have some injuries on their offensive line which wont make things any easier for the quarterback.

Other Notable Sits

Las Vegas Raiders – D/ST

Kansas City Chiefs – N/A

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Houston Texans

Start of the Game

Deshaun Watson (QB) – Houston Texans

Watson has underperformed at the start of the 2020 season and losing DeAndre Hopkins to the Cardinals has had an even bigger impact than people thought (and we knew it would be big!) Bill O’Brien is out of the building and Watson has a point to prove for the winless Texans. No better place to start than against a poor defence at home!

Other Notable Starts

Jacksonville Jaguars – Gardner Minshew (QB), James Robinson (RB), DJ Chark (WR)

Houston Texans – David Johnson (RB), Will Fuller (WR)

Sit of the Game

Darren Fells (TE) – Houston Texans

With Jordan Akins struggling with a concussion, Fells will be the starter at tight end for the Texans. He caught both targets in week 4 for 21 yards but the lack of productivity after Akins left the game is a concern.

Other Notable Sits

Jacksonville Jaguars – D/ST

Houston Texans – Brandin Cooks (WR), D/ST

Cincinnati Bengals @ Baltimore Ravens

Start of the Game

Drew Sample (TE) – Cincinnati Bengals

Sample is slowly working his way to becoming a reliable tight end for quarterback Joe Burrow. In the week 4 win over the Jaguars, he had three catches for 47 yards on five targets. The Ravens defence is strong but they do have a weakness covering tight ends meaning Sample could be Burrows go-to man in a tricky matchup.

Other Notable Starts

Cincinnati Bengals – Joe Mixon (RB), Tyler Boyd (WR)

Baltimore Ravens – Lamar Jackson (QB), Mark Ingram (RB), Mark Andrews (TE)

Sit of the Game

Joe Burrow (QB) – Cincinnati Bengals

Burrow has had a solid start to life as an NFL quarterback and picked up his first win in last weeks game against the Jaguars but this isn’t a favourable matchup! The Ravens defence are very good and although Burrow has looked composed so far, this is his biggest test to date!

Other Notable Sits

Cincinatti Bengals – A.J. Green (WR)

Baltimore Ravens – JK Dobbins (RB)

Carolina Panthers @ Atlanta Falcons

Start of the Game

Mike Davis (RB) – Carolina Panthers

With Christian McCaffrey still sidelined, Davis is leading the backfield for the Panthers and doing a very good job. Scoring over 20 points in each of his previous two appearances, he wont be slowed down in this one. The Falcons defence allow the 11th most points to opposing running backs.

Other Notable Starts

Carolina Panthers – Teddy Bridgewater (QB), D.J. Moore (WR), Robby Anderson (WR)

Atlanta Falcons – Todd Gurley (RB), Calvin Ridley (WR)

Sit of the Game

Matt Ryan (QB) – Atlanta Falcons

After a strong start to the season, Ryan has struggled the past two weeks. In week 4 he was held without a touchdown for the fourth time in his last 19 appearances! He doesn’t have the best matchup this week against a Panthers defence that have allowed just 1.5 passing touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks. Julio Jones may also be missing!

Other Notable Sits

Caroline Panthers – N/A

Atlanta Falcons – Hayden Hurst (TE)
