Week 2 Start/Sits – TNF & 6pm Sunday

ByAndy Goddard

Sep 16, 2020

By Andy Goddard @Godsy1985

So football is back and week 1 is in the books. How did we all get on? Hopefully you aren’t trading players for draft picks already! This week sees some great matchups so let’s take a look at the starts and sits for the Thursday night and the early Sunday slate of games.

Will week 2 provide some more ‘Minshew Magic?’ Will the Browns offensive line realise they need to block people? And will Tom Brady throw yet another pick 6?!

Don’t forget to keep your #EyesPeeled for tomorrow’s podcast where we dive into a full preview of the weekend games and make sure you head over to Twitter (@F10YFantasy) for “Start ‘em, sit ‘em, GIF ‘EM!”.

Spoiler alert: Tom Brady is a start ‘em.

Thursday Night Football

Cincinnati Bengals @ Cleveland Browns

Start of the Game

A.J Green (WR) – Cincinnati Bengals

Green had an average start to the season against a talented Chargers secondary, pulling in five catches for 51 yards. However, he did lead the team with nine targets and had a touchdown ruled out for offensive pass interference. This week Green is up against a Browns secondary that has some injury problems which could lead to more opportunities for him to put up good fantasy numbers in week 2.

Other Notable Starts

Austin Hooper (TE) – Cleveland Browns, Joe Mixon (RB) – Cincinnati Bengals, Kareem Hunt (RB) – Cleveland Browns, Tyler Boyd (WR) – Cincinnati Bengals.

Sit of the Game

Baker Mayfield (QB) – Cleveland Browns

Mayfield completed just 21 of 39 passes with one touchdown and one interception in week 1 against the Ravens. After all the hope going into week 1, the Browns offensive line was lacklustre and Mayfield only averaged 4.8 yards per attempt. Until the line shows some fight I wouldn’t risk starting Baker at the moment.

Other Notable Sits

C.J. Uzomah (TE) – Cincinnati Bengals, Defence – Cleveland Browns

Sunday Early Games

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Tennessee Titans

Start of the Game

Derrick Henry (RB) – Tennessee Titans

Henry only managed an average of 3.7 yards per carry in week 1 but he did run for 116 yards due to a massive workload. The titans are a run first team and this week he faces the Jaguars. Last season, Henry ran all over the Jags with an accumulated 203 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Other Notable Starts

James Robinson (RB) – Jacksonville Jaguars, A.J. Brown (WR) – Tennessee Titans, DJ Chark (WR) – Jacksonville Jaguars.

Sit of the Game

Jonnu Smith (TE) – Tennesse Titans

Smith looks set to have his best year in terms of targets and receiving yards but the Jaguars are better at linebacker than you may think. In week one, the Jaguars shocked most people with a win against the Colts and the Titans will be looking to run often to set up the play action. Smith’s targets may be lower this week.

Other Notable Sits

Gardner Minshew (QB) – Jacksonville Jaguars, Chris Conley (WR) – Jacksonville Jaguars.

Carolina Panthers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Start of the Game

Tom Brady (QB) – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Brady’s first outing as a Buccaneer didn’t exactly go to plan. After an impressive first drive Brady struggled to get anything going and threw yet another pick 6. This week the Bucs take on the Panthers and Brady will look to pick them apart with short and intermediate routes with the odd deep ball home-run. Don’t lose faith in the GOAT just yet!

Other Notable Starts

Christian McCaffrey (RB) – Carolina Panthers, Mike Evans (WR) – Tampa Bay Buccaneers,

Sit of the Game

Leonard Fournette (RB) – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

If week 1 is anything to go by, Fournette is going to be spending some time on the bench behind Ronald Jones. He touched the ball just 6 times against the Saints so is far too risky to start in this one.

Other Notable Sits

Rob Gronkowsi (TE) – Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Teddy Bridgewater (QB) – Carolina Panthers.

Denver Broncos @ Pittsburgh Steelers

Start of the Game

Ben Roethlisberger (QB) – Pittsburgh Steelers

Big Ben had a good game against the Giants, it just didn’t convert to great fantasy numbers. He threw for 229 yards and 3 touchdowns and they should be passing the ball more often with the weapons he has available. The Broncos secondary also have some issues away from Justin Simmons.

Other Notable Starts

Benny Snell Jr. (RB) – Pittsburgh Steelers, JuJu Smith-Schuster (WR) – Pittsburgh Steelers, Courtland Sutton (WR) – Denver Broncos (if he plays),

Sit of the Game

Melvin Gordon (RB) – Denver Broncos

Gordon had mixed results in his week 1 matchup against the Titans rushing for 78 yards and a touchdown but also fumbling the ball on one occasion. The Steelers defence destroyed Saquon Barkley so expect them to do the same to Melvin Gordon, even with Phillip Lindsay suffering from turf toe.

Other Notable Sits

Jerry Jeudy (WR) – Denver Broncos, Noah Fant (TE) – Denver Broncos,

LA Rams @ Philadelphia Eagles

Start of the Game

Malcolm Brown (RB) – LA Rams

Brown shone as a starter against the Cowboys with 79 yards on 18 rushes and three receptions for 31 yards. He is the obvious lead back for the Rams so will gain a large number of touches against an overrated run defense.

Other Notable Starts

Miles Sanders (RB) – Philadelphia Eagles (if he plays), Robert Woods (WR) LA Rams, Cooper Kupp (WR) – LA Rams, Zach Ertz (TE) – Philadelphia Eagles.

Sit of the Game

Carson Wentz (QB) – Philadelphia Eagles

Wentz struggled in against Washington completing just 24 of 42 passes for 270 yards. He did throw two touchdowns but also two interceptions. There is a major concern over both his protection and receivers which is never good news for a fantasy owner. The Rams defence also managed to control Dak Prescott and should do the same with Wentz.

Other Notable Sits

DeSean Jackson (WR) – Philadelphia Eagles, Defence – Philadelphia Eagles, Jared Goff (QB) – LA Rams.

San Francisco 49ers @ New York Jets

Start of the Game

Defence – San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers defence had 2 sacks, one interception and one forced fumble against the Cardinals and this weeks matchup couldn’t be better. The Jets offence were just horrible in week 1 and no longer have Le’Veon Bell at running back. Bosa and that defence will be after Darnold early and often!

Other Notable Starts

Raheem Mostert (RB) – San Francisco 49ers, George Kittle (TE) San Francisco 49ers (if he plays).

Sit of the Game

Frank Gore (RB) – New York Jets

Gore will be the RB1 for the Jets this week after Le’Veon bell was placed on injured reserve. He did manage 24 yards on six carries but he has a tough matchup this week against a strong 49ers defence. He also wont feature much in the passing game.

Other Notable Sits

Jamieson Crowder (WR) – New York Jets, Jimmy Garoppolo (QB) – San Francisco 49ers.

Buffalo Bills @ Miami Dolphins

Start of the Game

Josh Allen (QB) – Buffalo Bills

Allen completed 33 of 46 passes for 312 yards and two touchdowns in sunday’s 27-17 win against the Jets. He also rushed 14 times for 57 yards and a touchdown. Cam Newton rushed 15 times for 75 yards against the same Dolphins defence in week 1 so look for Allen to do much of the same. The Dolphins had no answer for Cam so Allen should repeat.

Other Notable Starts

Zack Moss (RB) – Buffalo Bills, Devin Singletary (RB) – Buffalo Bills, Stefon Diggs (WR) – Buffalo Bills.

Sit of the Game

Myles Gaskin (RB) – Miami Dolphins

Gaskin rushed nine times for 40 yards and caught four passes for 26 yards against the Patriots but Gaskin will be making owners of Jordan Howard and Matt Breida slightly annoyed. The three will continue to share the carries but i wouldn’t start any of them. This week Gaskin is up against a very strong Buffalo Bills defence. If he couldn’t run against the Pats, who are missing most of their linebackers, don’t expect much this week!

Other Notable Sits

DeVante Parker (WR) – Miami Dolphins (if he plays), John Brown (WR) – Buffalo Bills), Mike Gesicki (TE) – Miami Dolphins.

Minnesota Vikings @ Indianapolis Colts

Start of the Game

Jonathan Taylor (RB) – Indianapolis Colts

Taylor logged nine carries for 22 yards and six catches for 67 yards in the week 1 defeat to the Jaguars. He is now the starter after Marlon Mack’s season ending achilles tear. He has a favourable matchup this week against a Vikings defence that were mauled on the ground last week.

Other Notable Starts

Kirk Cousins (QB) – Minnesota Vikings, Philip Rivers (QB) Indianapolis Colts, Dalvin Cook (RB) – Minnesota Vikings, Adam Thielen (WR) – Minnesota Vikings. T.Y. Hlton (WR) – Indianapolis Colts.

Sit of the Game

Defence – Minnesota Vikings

The biggest disappointment from week 1 was the Vikings defence! They gave up 43 points to the green Bay Packers against a quarterback they have previously performed so well against. They were terrible at defending the run and they will face more of the same against the Colts this week!

Other Notable Sits

Nyheim Hines (RB) – Indianapolis Colts, Defence – Indianapolis Colts.

Detroit Lions @ Green Bay Packers

Start of the Game

Aaron Rodgers (QB) – Green Bay Packers

Time for me to eat some humble pie here. He was one of my sits of the week and just went off last week against the Vikings completing 32 of 44 passes for 364 yards and four touchdowns. This week he faces a poor pass defence with two cornerbacks hurting.

Other Notable Starts

Matthew Stafford (QB) – Detroit Lions, Aaron Jones (RB) – Green Bay Packers, Adrian Peterson (RB) – Detroit Lions, Devante Adams (WR) – Green Bay Packers, Marvin Jones Jr. (WR) – Detroit Lions.

Sit of the Game

T.J. Hockenson (TE) – Detroit Lions

Hockenson had a great first week against the Bears catching all five of his targets for 56 yards. If Kenny Golladay returns from his hamstring injury then look for Hockenson to cool off this week.

Other Notable Sits

D’Andre Swift (RB) – Detroit Lions, Jace Sternberger (TE) – Green Bay Packers.

Atlanta Falcons @ Dallas Cowboys

Start of the Game

Amari Cooper (WR) – Dallas Cowboys

Cooper caught ten passes on 14 targets for 81 yards in last Sundays loss to the LA Rams. He lead the Cowboys in receptions, targets and yards. The Falcons secondary was burned all over the field by the seahawks so Cooper should see plenty of action.

Other Notable Starts

Dak Prescott (QB) – Dallas Cowboys, Matt Ryan (QB) Atlanta Falcons, Todd Gurley (RB) Atlanta Falcons, Ezekiel Elliott (RB) – Dallas Cowboys, Julio Jones (WR) – Atlanta Falcons, CeeDee Lamb (WR) – Dallas Cowboys.

Sit of the Game

Hayden Hurst (TE) – Atlanta Falcons

Hurst had a bad start as a Falcon. He had just 3 catches on 5 targets for 38 yards. If you look at the Falcons week 1 game in more detail, they threw the ball 54 times, yet Hurst received just 5 targets! He should have a good matchup this week but the chemistry with Matt Ryan may take some time to develop. He also looked a little bit weak against the Seattle linebackers who struggled against tight ends in 2019. I need to see more from Hurst before he becomes a starter.

Other Notable Sits

Defence – Atlanta Falcons.

New York Giants @ Chicago Bears

Start of the Game

David Montgomery (RB) – Chicago Bears

Montgomery rushed 13 times for 64 yards while catching one of his three targets for an additional 10 yards in the Bears’ 27-23 victory over Detroit. The Giants run defence got pounded by the Steelers in the week 1 so Montgomery should have some good value.

Other Notable Starts

Saquon Barkley (RB) – New York Giants, Allen Robinson (WR) – Chicago Bears, Darius Slayton (WR) – New York Giants, Daniel Jones (QB) – New York Giants.

Sit of the Game

Cole Kmet (TE) – Chicago Bears

Kmet failed to catch his only target in his NFL debut and was used primarily as a blocker. With Jimmy Graham being used as the main tight end threat, Kmet has low upside for fantasy owners.

Other Notable Sits

Defence – Chicago Bears.
