Where should TJ Finley go?
After my recent article talking about the strength of the LSU quarterback room one of the prospects I mentioned, TJ Finley has decided to enter the transfer portal. After the spring game I think it became clear to him that if he wants to play he needs to transfer to a team willing to take a chance on his super high ceiling and amazing athletic traits. So given the chances of him not being picked up are slim let’s take a look at a few schools where I think TJ Finley could thrive.
With Malik Willis potentially eying the NFL draft after the 2021 season the Liberty Flames will need a replacement to step up to take over the offence to help continue their success going forward. Finley has an amazing arm, has played against some of the best defenses in college football already and a year inside a new offence could set him up for success when Liberty has to say farewell to Willis come 2022. Liberty being an independent could also be a bonus as Finley will get a chance to compete against a great variety of opponents once he makes it onto the field. While certainly a step down from the SEC I think a smaller team like Liberty could be the perfect team for Finley to shine when his number is called. While Finley might want to stay in-state I still think heading to Virginia could be a great move for him.
Another team on the rise who will be in need of a new signal caller soon are the Cincinnati Bearcats. After an amazing 2020 season saw Cincinnati robbed of a playoff spot it’s clear Desmond Ridder is NFL bound very soon. Provided Luke Fickell stays on as head coach Finley could really be something special as the Bearcats continue to build themselves into an amazing non power 5 team. Could Finley help continue the Bearcats championship winning ways with a move to Cincinnati? Provided he’s given the correct opportunities I think this move could be massive for both parties.
Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns:
After being named to the Davey O’Brian 2020 quarterback class member Levi Lewis entering his final year of eligibility could Finley remain home and fill the shoes of the Ragin’ Cajun’s most impressive quarterback prospect ever? Like I’ve said he has all the talent in the world and the Sunbelt conference could really allow Finley the chance to grow his game as he hones his skills. Bill Napier has done a great job going 28-11 in his current tenure and with the style of offence he’s got running in Lafayette adding local lad Finley could mean the Ragin Cajuns could continue their success for the next 2 years at least.
