The Hype Train Station – Week 9 Waivers

By Dave Moore (@mondomgmtblog)

Bye Weeks: DET, SEA, TB, WAS

Week 7 was the Byepocalypse. What does that Week 8? The BackuPocalypse? Given some of the injuries around the league it could just be labelled something of an apocalypse to your season. I’m Dave Moore (@davieremixed) subbing in for James this week and I’ll be your conductor of weak train puns.

1st Class Ticket

The 1st class ticket section covers players who will be the top targets on the wire and the hot ticket.

Taysom Hill – Quarterback – New Orleans Saints – vsATL- Ownership Percentage: ~%0.9

Recommended FAAB Budget: 10%

Ah Jameis 2.0, we hardly knew ye. As the Saints QB looked to be on the verge of having his breakout game in the ‘Revenge Game’ against Tampa, he tears his ACL. Now we have Taysom Hill as the de facto starter for New Orleans (assuming no trades go down in the next few hours). Hill most certainly has his limitations but given the dearth of receivers in NOLA this season, he is primed to have a strong second half of the season. Hill may not be available in Superflex leagues but in your standard 1QB league he is a strong pickup.

DeVante Parker – Wide Receiver – Miami Dolphins – vsHOU – Ownership Percentage: ~%56.1

Recommended FAAB Budget: 10%

This is going to be a harder find given he’s likely owned in deeper leagues but given he’s been out since Week 4 until his return against Buffalo (8/85/0) which was hardly a favourable matchup you may get lucky, especially as he’s facing those Houston Texans. It’s difficult to trust the Dolphins this year but you know who I trust even less? Those Houston Texans! I love Parker in Week 9.

2nd Class Ticket

This section covers player who may not be the top option but could be good replacements for bye weeks or just have strong matchups. A Flex ticket if you must.

Tajae Sharpe – Wide Receiver – Atlanta Falcons – @NO – Ownership Percentage: ~%0.1

Recommended FAAB Budget: 5%

This is a deep, deep cut but with no Calvin Ridley for the foreseeable it appears to be Sharpe SZN in Atlanta. We saw the Panthers double and sometimes triple cover Kyle Pitts which led to Sharpe joint-leading the Falcons in targets. I expect a similar result in New Orleans this Sunday and whilst the Saints D is for real, someone is going to catch passes for the Falcons. With receiver-heavy teams like the Seahawks and the Bucs on a bye you may be in need of more than one WR, make sure Sharpe is one of them.

Jeremy McNichols – Running Back – Tennessee Titans – @LAR – Ownership Percentage: ~%2.1

Recommended FAAB Budget: 10%

The Titans may have signed AD and D’Onta Foreman to their practice squad but let’s be honest, they’re not making any impact this weekend. McNichols is the emphatic backup for the Titans until we are shown otherwise and whilst he won’t tear up trees he’s a flier for this week if you’re in need of an RB.

Other players of note (approx. % owned):

RB: Boston Scott/Jordan Howard (PHI ~5.1%/0.9%), Carlos Hyde (JAX ~6.7%),

WR: Van Jefferson (LAR ~8.5%), Elijah Moore (NYJ ~11.7%), Deonte Harris (NO ~1.9%)

TE: Tyler Conklin (MIN ~17.6%).

Day Return Ticket

This section will highlight the QBs and DST options who you may be able to pickup as a streaming option this week. We often advise people not to draft an early QB and certainly not an early DST so this section backs up that advice.

Mike White – QB – New York Jets – vs Indianapolis Colts – Ownership Percentage: ~0.6%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 5%

Surely we won’t see the same performance from Mike White in Week 9 as we did against the Bengals? However if you’ve missed out on Taysom Hill and you were unfortunate enough to have Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston on your roster then why not ride the Mike White train? He’ll be a low cost pickup for sure and who knows what this Jets team is truly like with him under centre?

Other low rostered options at QB to consider are: Tua Tagovailoa (MIA vsHOU ~36%), Carson Wentz (IND @NYJ ~32.6%)

Dallas Cowboys – DST – vs Denver Broncos- Ownership Percentage: ~48.7%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 1%

Trevon Diggs and Micah Parsons are total gamechangers for this Dallas team, the way they made the Vikings look so anaemic on Monday Night Football was impressive (although some of this anaemia was self-inflicted). Now put them up against a Denver team who seem incapable of throwing beyond the line of scrimmage and you’ve got yourselves a strong D/ST this week.

Other low rostered options at DST to consider are: Green Bay Packers (@KC ~30.9%), Chicago Bears (@PIT ~26.3%),

Advanced Ticket

Advanced fares are for players who you won’t be playing in your line-ups straight away, but keep an eye on developments, and if you’re in deeper leagues, get a bargain by jumping in before everyone else.

Mark Ingram – Running Back – New Orleans Saints – Ownership Percentage: ~24.8%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 0%

A peculiar one here as he would likely have been owned in a lot more leagues a fortnight ago but after his trade to the Saints his usage was expected to drop considerably. Then Jameis Winston got hurt and the Saints are a total mystery going forward, if you have the bench space then I’d stash Ingram if you can just to see how this whole mess plays out in New Orleans. He could become a crucial player for them going down the stretch and it isn’t like he has to get acclimated to the team/locker room.

Samaje Perine – Running Back- Cincinnati Bengals – Ownership Percentage: ~17.8%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 0%

Samaje Perine may not be young for an RB (5th year in the league and aged 26) but there are signs of life from him every now and then. A sign of life I’m projecting is in Week 13when the Packers, Browns, Panthers and Titans are all on a bye week. That’s a lot of running back production missing in your playoff hunt and Perine could be someone worth stashing for a low floor/high ceiling play come Week 13.
