The Hype Train Station – Week 8 Waivers

By James Fotheringham (@NFLHypeTrain)

Bye Weeks: BAL, LV

After the Byepocalypse in week 7, week 8 has a much more manageable 2 teams on bye with the Ravens and Raiders taking a break. Injuries didn’t sting quite as hard this week so I’m going to keep this short and let you pick your tickets.

1st Class Ticket

The 1st class ticket section covers players who will be the top targets on the wire and the hot ticket.

Kenneth Gainwell – Philadelphia Eagles – @DET – Ownership Percentage: ~27%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 10%

Miles Sanders has been pretty ineffective this season for the Eagles and he became even less effective as he exited the game last week. Gainwell became the lead back but he barely rushes, he’s a pass catcher and a useful one. 5 carries for 20 yards is drab but 4 receptions for 41 yards and a TD is what you’re looking for. Gainwell has been on the radar for a while but with Sanders having health issues on top of usage issues, Gainwell is getting more and more involved.

Christian Kirk / AJ Green – WR – Arizona Cardinals – vsGB – Ownership Percentage: ~30/38%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 10%

You want pieces in high powered offences and nearly every week the Cardinals are scoring big and they seem irresistible. In a team with Deandre Hopkins as the WR1, a decent pass catching RB in Chase Edmonds and 3 more WRs of note, and a now a tight end… each of them are still fantasy relevant and playable. In the last 6 games, Kirk and Green have each only failed to top 9 PPR points once. They’ve gone over 15 3 times each. Ertz will likely be owned in most leagues but if he isn’t add him to the list.

2nd Class Ticket

This section covers player who may not be the top option but could be good replacements for bye weeks or just have strong matchups. A Flex ticket if you must.

Alan Lazard – WR – Green Bay Packers – @ARI – Ownership Percentage: ~5%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 5%

With the news that Davante Adams is likely to miss TNF against the Cardinals, Lazard becomes the WR1 for the team if you factor in recency bias. Randall Cobb will prevent him being double teamed out of the game. Lazard had a rough start to the season but he’s found the endzone each of the last 2 weeks and seen his receptions go from 2 to 3 to 5. They will need him this week without Adamas, but when their alpha is back, Lazard appears to still have solid value.

CJ Uzomah – TE –Cincinnati Bengals – @NYJ – Ownership Percentage: ~20%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 1%

I wanted to wait on Uzomah after his 26 PPR point game in week 4 against Jacksonville. After a down week I felt I was right that it was a one off… he’s since had 2 games with 3 receptions with 15yds and 1Td in the first and then 91yds and 2TDs in the 2nd. The offence is clicking, Burrow is on fire and even with Chase, Boyd, Higgins and Mixon he’s still performing. You want pieces in good offences and I think, much like Arizona, this is one of them.

Other players of note (approx. % owned):

RB: Deejay Dallas/Rashaad Penny (SEA ~20%), Samaje Perine (WAS ~7%).

WR: Elijah Moore (NYJ ~15%), Michael Gallup (DAL ~40%), Marquez Callaway (NO ~40%), Mack Hollins (MIA ~5%).

TE: Evan Engram (NYG ~30%), Tyler Conklin (MIN ~15%).

Day Return Ticket

This section will highlight the QBs and DST options who you may be able to pickup as a streaming option this week. We often advise people not to draft an early QB and certainly not an early DST so this section backs up that advice.

Carson Wentz – QB – Indianapolis Colts – vsTEN- Ownership Percentage: ~38%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 5%

Wentz has not had 4 solid weeks with at least 2 passing TDs in each game and 17+ fantasy points. He is a good option potentially for the whole season (expect for the Colts bye week in week 14). Next week he gets Tennessee who had been shipping fantasy points to QBs for fun until the decided to stuff Patrick Mahomes. I’d still back QBs against Tennessee for now and Wentz after that has the Jets and Jags… Nice.

Other low rostered options at QB to consider are: Trevor Lawrence (JAX @SEA ~40%), Daniel Jones (NYG @KC ~25%), Teddy Bridgewater (DEN vsWAS ~20%).

Cincinatti Bengals – DST – @NYJ – Ownership Percentage: ~20%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 1%

There’s a lot of good DST streams this week but after really rattling the Ravens the Bengals now get the Jets with a backup QB who might be Joe Flacco… oooh Brother. I don’t feel I need to expand on this really.

Other low rostered options at DST to consider are: Falcons (vsCAR ~10%), Eagles (vsDET ~5%), Seahawks (vsJAX ~10%).

Advanced Ticket

Advanced fares are for players who you won’t be playing in your line-ups straight away, but keep an eye on developments, and if you’re in deeper leagues, get a bargain by jumping in before everyone else.

Jeff Wilson – RB – San Francisco 49ers – Ownership Percentage: ~10%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 0%

I’ve been saying all year that if you have an IR spot, Jeff Wilson should be owned so that you have him when he’s off the PUP list. He might be a few weeks away but if you have an IR spot he’s got to be owned. Sermon is doing nothing, Mitchell need a partner to run with and Hasty is replaceable.  Other players in a similar position include Michael Gallup who I mentioned earlier, Tarik Cohen if you’re in a very deep league and MVS for Green Bay. Really, Gallup and Wilson are the ones to grab. Don’t do this if limited on options on your bench, but with a shallow bye week and after a week which saw loads of players dropped, it’s possible.

Elijah Moore – WR – New York Jets – Ownership Percentage: ~15%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 0%

Moore could have been featured in the earlier lists after getting his first TD this week and looking like he’s featuring more in the offence at last. The injury to Zach Wilson and the fact he still needs some more development means he’s worth considering for a roster spot but it’s hard to play him yet.
