The Hype Train Station – Week 7 Waivers

By James Fotheringham (@NFLHypeTrain)

It’s Byepocalypse already as so many good teams with fantasy options unavailable. Add in some significant revelations when it comes to IR and a bunch of unknowns with players who “could” come off their IR/PUP list. I’d list all the injuries and big players who will be missing this week but if you’re reading this you know who is missing off your team and you’re here to find out who will replace them. You don’t need me to further remind you of your pain!

Rather than remind you of the pain let’s look for the remedy and people to get you out of this tricky situation.

1st Class Ticket

The 1st class ticket section covers players who will be the top targets on the wire and the hot ticket.

Demetric Felton, D’Ernest Johnson – Cleveland Browns – vsDEN – Ownership Percentage: ~2-4%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 10%

Please note that if the backups to injured stars are on your wire and you need a Running back, pick them up. These include Devontae Booker, Chuba Hubbard, Alex Collins, Khalil Herbert and Darrel Williams. Most are over 50% owned but they will be out there. There’s now anther set to add to the list. Nick Chubb missed week 6 and while he “might” be okay in week 7, his usual partner Kareem Hunt will be missing as his calf injury may put him on IR. Chubb will be limited at best next week so the supporting players of D’Ernest Johnson and Demetric Felton will get touches. Felton profiles as the Hunt replacement as a pass catcher while Johnson would spell Chubb. It makes Felton a potentially superb pickup for the next few weeks.

Jameison Crowder – WR – New York Jets – @NE – Ownership Percentage: ~25%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 10%

A feature of waiver wires tends to be players being available who were on bye the previous week. Crowder had a good return game against Tennessee in week 4 before struggling in London against Atlanta. A game at New England isn’t a fantastic matchup but he has as much opportunity as any receiver out there (less than 50% owned) who doesn’t play for Arizona (that was covered last week). Jets will be throwing as they chase games and so Crowder should be a solid play.

2nd Class Ticket

This section covers player who may not be the top option but could be good replacements for bye weeks or just have strong matchups. A Flex ticket if you must.

Rhamondre Stevenson – RB – New England Patriots – vsNYJ – Ownership Percentage: ~12%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 20%

Brandon Bolden and Stevenson are getting opportunities and Stevenson managed to find the endzone and take 3 catches for 39 yards as well which suggests he will be a handy PPR option. Harris had a decent game as well so clearly the Patriots are still able to support multiple RBs.

Mo Alie-Cox – TE –Indianapolis Colts – @SF – Ownership Percentage: ~3%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 1%

Ricky Seals-Jones is by far the best TE pickup at less than 20% owned as he has a large grip on that offence, but I featured him last week and as an alternative I give you Mo Alie-Cox. He’s huge, has TD potential every series and has had 50 yards or a TD each of the last 3 weeks. Wentz likes him and with Parris Campbell and TY Hilton potentially missing, he’s a good option.

Other players of note (approx. % owned):

RB: Deejay Dallas/Rashaad Penny (SEA ~1%), JD McKissic (WAS ~45%), Latavious Murray (BAL ~45%), Michael Carter (NYJ ~45%).

WR: Cardinals WRs as before (ARI ~35%), Donovan Peoples-Jones (CLE ~1%), Mack Hollins (MIA ~0%), Marquez Callaway/Deonte Harris (NO ~40/10%).

TE: Ricky Seals-Jones (WAS ~20%).

Day Return Ticket

This section will highlight the QBs and DST options who you may be able to pickup as a streaming option this week. We often advise people not to draft an early QB and certainly not an early DST so this section backs up that advice.

Tua Tagovailoa – QB – Miami Dolphins – vsATL – Ownership Percentage: ~25%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 1%

Tua is back in the lineup and he looked good in the London game. He and Jalen Waddle were about the only players who did look good for Miami. Tua had 329 yards passing, 22 yards rushing and 2 passing TDs against the Jags and he now has a matchup against Atlanta. It’s weird for a team to have a game after a London game but after having the 3 prior weeks off with injury, he’s probably raring to go.

Other low rostered options at QB to consider are: Matt Ryan (ATL @MIA ~30%), Sam Darnold (CAR @NYG ~42%), Mac Jones (NE vsNYJ ~12%).

New York Giants – DST – vsCAR – Ownership Percentage: ~3%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 0%

It’s rough for DST streamers this week but with CMC on IR, Robby Anderson looking almost dead as a player and DJ Moore/Chuba Hubbard having to be the key figures for Sam Darnold means the Giants have the chance to do something. It’s just the least bad of a bad bunch owned less than 50%. Ultimately you’re hoping to be in one of those few leagues with TB, DEN, LAR, CAR, NE, ARI or NO available. You may well have one there and I’d take each of them over the Giants and Raiders, but if you’re out of luck, there’s something to cling to.

Other low rostered options at DST to consider are: Raiders (vsPHI ~20%).

Advanced Ticket

Advanced fares are for players who you won’t be playing in your line-ups straight away, but keep an eye on developments, and if you’re in deeper leagues, get a bargain by jumping in before everyone else.

Ronald Jones/Marlon Mack – RB – Tampa Bay/Indianapolis – Ownership Percentage: ~38%/1%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 0%

Bye weeks are hitting but with 2 weeks until the trade deadline there are a few potential moves. With RBs dropping like flies Jones and Mack may get value and if you fancy a gamble on them landing in a good place, grab them now. You’ll need a deep bench though.

It’s worth noting that with so many good teams on bye there won’t be many good players dropped so you’ll have to monitor your waiver wires and see who is dropped. Devin Singletary may be the best player you see dropped who has a bye, but I can see a lot of borderline decisions happening this week. The Thursday waivers may be as exciting as the Wednesday ones.

Pat Freiermuth – TE – Pittsburgh Steelers – Ownership Percentage: ~3%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 0%

Freiermuth will be on bye this week but if you want a TE to cover the rest of the season he could be a decent shout. In dynasty I get a feeling he will be a good outlet for the Steelers and will be a focal point for any new QB. Dan Arnold is alsoa  decent bye week TE pickup for the Jags.

Bills – DST – Buffalo Bills – Ownership Percentage: ~90%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 0%

This is a bonus one but a very relevant one. The Bills are heavily owned and have been dominant as a defence this season, but bye weeks leave people with tough decisions and there will be leagues where the Bills are dropped. If you have the room, pick them up and never have to worry about streaming a defence again this season. You won’t see Josh Allen out there but the defence could be.
