The Hype Train Station – Week 6 Waivers

By James Fotheringham (@NFLHypeTrain)

Bye Weeks: ATL, NO, NYJ, SF

It’s week 6 and now begins the bye weeks. Injuries will still happen but it’s the next few weeks where the waiver wire, roster construction and who to drop become major decisions. CMC and Dalvin cook should return but Saquon Barkley, CEH, Joe Burrow, Daniel Jones, Kenny Golladay, Juju, Quintez Cephus, George Kittle and Russel Wilson could all miss time all suffered injuries and there are plenty more who will be on the injury report next week including stars like Travis Kelce. Add in the likes of Calvin Ridley, Jameis Winston, Cordarelle Patterson and Alvin Kamara all on bye weeks and you have the recipe for some waiver wire chaos.

Hopefully we can guide you through the disruption but there are not a lot of options this week so you’ll want to tandem this with monitoring the injury report to see who may or may not suit up in week 6.

1st Class Ticket

The 1st class ticket section covers players who will be the top targets on the wire and the hot ticket.

Devontae Booker – RB – New York Giants – vsLAR – Ownership Percentage: ~10%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 10%

I really wanted to not go with the obvious here but there really isn’t a better option in terms of a week 6 or 7 streamer. It’s not because of the matchup, a game against the Rams with the rest of your offence beaten up is a scary prospect, but the Giants need their running game and Booker is a capable pass catcher and found the endzone in week 5 so the Giants may have to cling on to that hope. He’s the best of a difficult bunch so temper your expectations.

Kadarious Toney – WR – New York Giants – vsLAR – Ownership Percentage: ~12%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 10%

In a very rare Giants double, Kadarious Toney makes it into the first class section on what is a very empty looking train. With Jones or with Glennon he was a threat. Sadly later on he’d take his threats too far and punch someone and be ejected, but by then he’d already landed his fantasy punch with 10 receptions for 189 yards and a TD. Shepard and Slayton have a chance to return next week and Golladay and Engram are still around, however, now he’s shown what he can do, he might yet end up a focal point.

2nd Class Ticket

This section covers player who may not be the top option but could be good replacements for bye weeks or just have strong matchups. A Flex ticket if you must.

AJ Green/Rondale Moore/Christian Kirk – Arizona Cardinals @CLE – Ownership Percentage: ~25-40%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 10%

I’d like to think that at least one of these is available in everyone’s league (unless it’s super deep). The Cardinals offence is a powerhouse and there’s a lot of production in the desert. It’s very hard to predict week to week who will have a big game but the opportunity you have week on week makes any of them desirable. With Maxx Williams potentially sidelines and Chase Edmonds struggling this week there could be a few more targets available too. It’s a dice throw, but with decent odds.

Ricky Seals-Jones – TE –Washington Football Team – vsKC – Ownership Percentage: ~1%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 1%

This gets my seal of approval even if there were more impressive performances in week 5. RSJ takes over the Logan Thomas role and I think Taylor Heinicke still needs a TE blanket that he can trust. 5 receptions on 8 targets for 41 yards means he’s going to see usage and with a matchup against KC who are haemorrhaging points left right and centre and let Dawson Knox run over them, is not bad at all.

Other players of note (approx. % owned):

RB: Alex Collins (SEA ~39%), Samaje Perine (CIN ~32%), Darrel Williams (KC ~10%), Rhamondre Stevenson (NE ~6%).

WR: Amon-Ra St Brown (DET ~5%), Tim Patrick (DEN ~30%, Texans and Browns WRs if you feel brave.

TE: Dan Arnold (JAX ~1%), Hunter Henry (NE ~35%), David Njoku (CLE ~1%).

Day Return Ticket

This section will highlight the QBs and DST options who you may be able to pickup as a streaming option this week. We often advise people not to draft an early QB and certainly not an early DST so this section backs up that advice.

Trevor Lawrence – QB – Jacksonville Jaguars – vsMIA(N) – Ownership Percentage: ~42%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 0%

The (N) is for Neutral as this is a London game but after seemingly getting to together after the early interception in week 5, I feel ready for Trevor Lawrence to be a streamer option and with the Dolphins not being a particularly formidable force this may just be his time to shine. Lawrence completed 23 of 33 passes for 273 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Titans in week 5, whilst also having 28 yards and one touchdown rushing. He’s a dual threat and sometimes the Jags can just find something extra in London.

Other low rostered options at QB to consider are: Ben Roethlisberger (PIT vsSEA ~20%), Carson Wentz (IND vsHOU ~5%), Taylor Heinicke (WAS vsKC ~12%).

Dallas Cowboys – DST – @NE – Ownership Percentage: ~35%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 0%

It’s not the easiest week for defensive streamers with limited option due to bye weeks and many of the available defences playing the QBs listed above or good opponents. I’ve gone with the Cowboys as they’ve been steadily impressive this season and the Patriots have looked rather poor. It won’t be a massive scorer, but no many DSTs have been.

Other low rostered options at DST to consider are: Packers (vs CHI ~20%), Colts (vsHOU ~40%).

Advanced Ticket

Advanced fares are for players who you won’t be playing in your line-ups straight away, but keep an eye on developments, and if you’re in deeper leagues, get a bargain by jumping in before everyone else.

Marquez Callaway/Deonte Harris – WR – New Orleans Saints – Ownership Percentage: ~10%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 0%

It’s that time of season where players are going to get dropped because they are on bye week and if you have room on your bench (or feel they are a long term upgrade) then you can make a bid in the hopes of a Thursday pickup. The Saints look like they’re adopting the big play method of scoring and Callaway and Harris should see plenty of those.

Tommy Tremble – TE – Carolina Panthers – Ownership Percentage: ~0%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 0%

Unless you are in a dynasty with a taxi squad, Tremble may be available and I think he’s a deep league stash. The Panthers are utilising the Tight End a little more now that they’ve drafted one with some real potential. He also has a great name… I did say this was a rough week.
