The Hype Train Station – Week 5 Waivers

By James Fotheringham (@NFLHypeTrain)

Bye Week – SF, NYG, CHI, BUF

It’s week 11 and due to ongoing frequent maintenance and a incoming lack of train crew, this service will run a shorter formation than longer and future services may be delayed or cancelled at short notice. With the railway pun intro to explain what’s happening out of the way, let’s throw some names out there for those in need.

Don’t forget to keep your #EyesPeeled for the weekly recap podcast where we discuss some of our favourite waiver wire targets in a bit more detail.

1st Class Ticket

The 1st class ticket section covers players who will be the top targets on the wire and the hot ticket.

Damien Harris – RB – New England Patriots – Ownership Percentage: 43%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 1%

Harris looks to be a very rare thing. An RB1 in New England. They really are having to alter their philosophy and Harris looks great. He’s a decent grab now but for dynasty he’s a long term keep. He has 3 100+ yard games in an injury hit season and he now plays Houston who couldn’t stop a run-ning nose.

Michael Pittman Jr – Indianapolis Colts – Ownership Percentage: 5%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 2%

This was the definition of a breakout game and the passing of the torch from Hilton to Pittman. Again, this has long term value and hopefully he can have more 100 yard games this season and beyond.

2nd Class Ticket

This section covers player who may not be the top option but could be good replacements for bye weeks or just have strong matchups. A Flex ticket if you must.

Jalen Reagor – WR – Philadelphia Eagles – Ownership Percentage: 24%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 0%

I promise I’m not a closet Eagles fan. As a Steelers and Penguins fan I traditionally dislike teams from Philly, but for fantasy that goes out of the window and I think they have the best options with low ownership. Reagor is now settling into his role and somewhat breaking out so I fancy his chances for the rest of the season and beyond. Fulgham stunted his value a little, but they can work together and if it makes the price cheaper then I’m buying.

Logan Thomas – TE – Washington Football Team – Ownership Percentage: 20%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 1%

14 catches for 196yards and 2 TDs over the last 4 games is a decent run and Alex Smith seems to like finding him. With Reed on bye in SF, Goedert now owned over 50% and many teams going with a committee, Thomas becomes the best streamer.

Other players of note:

RB: Nyheim Hines (IND-42%), Kalen Ballage (LAC-30%), Wayne Gallman (NYG-30%), Salvon Ahmed (MIA-7%), Devontae Booker (LVR-1%).

WR: Allen Lazard (GB-31%), Jacobi Meyers (NE-23%), Josh Reynolds (LAR-3%), Denzel Mims (NYJ-1%).

TE: Dalton Schultz (17%), Trey Burton (IND-12%), Drew Sample (CIN-1%).

Day Return Ticket

This section will highlight the QBs and DST options who you may be able to pickup as a streaming option this week. We often advise people not to draft an early QB and certainly not an early DST so this section backs up that advice.

Alex Smith – QB – Washington Football Team – vsCIN – Ownership Percentage: 3%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 0%

Smith has been great since stepping in for Kyle Allen. He doesn’t seem scared, is putting up big yards and long may that continue. If he can cut-out the turnovers then he will increase rapidly from 3% rostered.

Other low rostered options at QB to consider are Tua Tagovailoa @DEN (32%), Kirk Cousins vsDAL (13%), Jameis Winston vsATL (1%).

Los Angeles Chargers – DST – vsNYJ – Ownership Percentage: 28%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 0%

Have a defence that needs a boost? Play the Jets or Jags. The Jags have the Steelers so they are fully owned so Chargers it is.

Other low rostered options at DST to consider are: Saints vsSF (33%), Vikings vsDAL (32%).

Advanced Ticket

Advanced fares are for players who you won’t be playing in your line-ups straight away, but keep an eye on developments, and if you’re in deeper leagues, get a bargain by jumping in before everyone else.

Tevin Coleman – RB– San Francisco 49ers – Ownership Percentage: 28%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 1%

Hasty could be ruled out for a while, McKinnon keeps having reasons for the Questionable marker to appear and Mostert may need a running mate when he returns. The 49ers are on bye this week but if you want a cheap option to dig you out of a hole in the run in, he’s an option.

Denzel Mims – WR – New York Jets – Ownership Percentage: 1%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 0%

Mims has a chance to show what he can do this year and then flourish next year. Early signs are decent so he’s got value.
