The Hype Train Station – Week 10 Waivers

By James Fotheringham (@NFLHypeTrain)

Bye Weeks: CHI, CIN, HOU, NYG

Hello, I’m back. Thanks to Dave for keeping the station running while I took a little holiday. I’m back manning the ticket office and we’ve reached week 10. While week 9 was mental for results, it didn’t cause havoc when it comes to injuries compared to the earlier weeks so this is going to be a challenge. Couple in the fact we have the Bengals on bye who provided 3 usable WRs and a stud RB it gets interesting. Thankfully the other 3 bye teams should hurt less as most of their startable assets have either “just” returned from injury or are about to return from injury.

1st Class Ticket

The 1st class ticket section covers players who will be the top targets on the wire and the hot ticket.

Mark Ingram – New Orleans Saints – @TEN – Ownership Percentage: ~30%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 10%

I’ll be honest here, the 1st class segment isn’t particularly first class this week. Imagine a train where the difference is essentially the seat cover is a different colour and you can pick up a small bottle of water and some hotel biscuits on your way to the chair. Not worth a lot more than your standard seat but it may still be slightly more comfortable than what’s going on behind. I think in most leagues there will be someone out there more noteworthy than xxx such as maybe Devin Singletary (BUF) or Nyheim Hines (IND) but with the 40% threshold I’ve gone for Mark Ingram. Now he’s back with the Saints his partnership with Kamara looks exactly like it did before, only with a different QB. With the Siemian/Hill tandem now in place Inrgam and Kamara will be relied on a lot and both will be fantasy relevant.

Rashod Bateman – WR – Baltiomore Ravens – @MIA – Ownership Percentage: ~25%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 20%

I really wanted to put Brandon Aiyuk here but at 45% owned on most platforms I had to look elsewhere. If you see him on your wire, grab him, I think the turnaround starts now but if he’s not there maybe have a look for Rashod Bateman. Having returned from an injury hit start to his career Bateman now has back to back 10+ PPR point games and the Ravens are working out how to balance their offence a bit. Hollywood Brown emerged this year after years of promise but if Bateman keeps progressing as he is, they will have 3 strong receivers along with TE Mark Andrews.

2nd Class Ticket

This section covers player who may not be the top option but could be good replacements for bye weeks or just have strong matchups. A Flex ticket if you must.

Donovan Peoples-Jones – WR – Cleveland Browns – @NE – Ownership Percentage: ~15%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 1%

With the departure of OBJ comes the peoples replacement in Peoples-Jones. He’s been very feast of famine this season but with a major distraction and target rival now divorced from the team DPJ should have a fair chance of being relevant on a weekly basis. A deep threat and TD option, DPJ got his 3rd TD of the years against the Bengals and his 3rd game over 70 receiving yards.

Pat Freirmuth – TE –Pittsburgh Steelers – vsDET – Ownership Percentage: ~38%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 5%

It’s so nice to be talking about a successful Steelers player again and the ‘Muth’ is most definitely being set ‘loose’. A crazy 2 TD performance against Chicago with 5 receptions off 6 targets for 43 yards saw him pass 20 PPR points, making it 3 in a row over 12. He’s the clear TE1 for the team and with the offence showing signs of improvement all the time, he seems to be one of the main reasons for it.

Other players of note (approx. % owned):

RB: Devonta Freeman (BAL ~20%), Jordan Howard (PHI ~8%), Eno Benjamin (ARI ~2%), Brandon Bolden/Rhamondre Stevenson (NE ~10%), Ty Johnson (NYJ ~20%).

WR: Tim Patrick (DEN ~25%), Elijah Moore/Jameison Crowder (NYJ ~15%/25%), Olamide Zaccheaus (ATL ~2%), Marquez Callaway/Deonte Harris/TreQuan Smith (NO ~5%).

TE: Dan Arnold (JAX ~18%), Donald Parham (LAC ~1%).

Day Return Ticket

This section will highlight the QBs and DST options who you may be able to pickup as a streaming option this week. We often advise people not to draft an early QB and certainly not an early DST so this section backs up that advice.

Ben Roethlisberger – QB – Pittsburgh Steelers – vsDET- Ownership Percentage: ~25%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 0%

Big Ben has been steady if unspectacular this season but a matchup against the Lions, with an improving offence and an O-Line that’s starting to get it together a little more means I’ve tagged him as the day return this week. If Matt Ryan is available in your league I’d have him above Ben but again, Ryan is over the 40% buffer.

Other low rostered options at QB to consider are: Trevor Siemian (NO @TEN ~5%), Mac Jones (NE vsCLE ~30%).

Seattle Seahawks – DST – @GB – Ownership Percentage: ~10%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 1%

If Jordan Love is playing I want the defence against him. He had a pretty poor debut and even though I don’t rate that Seattle defence the matchup is too good to ignore. It’s slimmer pickings this week but last week the Jags proved than anything is possible in the NFL.

Other low rostered options at DST to consider are: Titans (vsNO ~10%), Eagles (vsDEN ~5%).

Advanced Ticket

Advanced fares are for players who you won’t be playing in your line-ups straight away, but keep an eye on developments, and if you’re in deeper leagues, get a bargain by jumping in before everyone else.

Kenny Stills – WR – New Orleans Saints – Ownership Percentage: ~0%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 0%

I’d keep a careful eye on who gets dropped this week as someone like Tyler Boyd could be on a few peoples roster bubble and if you’re struggling he may be a good pickup. Same goes for Darnell Mooney, Sterling Shepard, Kadarious Toney and even Kenny Golladay and Allen Robinson. But returning to the Wednesday waiver wire, Kenny Stills is an interesting option. With the QB change in New Orleans, different receivers get new opportunities and Stills had 5 targets, one of which was a TD. The Saints have a lot of receiving options and any of them could become relevant, but Stills is the least likely to be taken, even in deep leagues.

Logan Thomas – TE – Washington Football Team – Ownership Percentage: ~40%

Recommended FAAB Budget: 0%

I wanted to put Eno Benjamin here but with Chase Edmonds likely to miss some time you’d have to get him now so the advanced ticket isn’t the right one. Instead I’m going down my other favourite advanced ticket avenue which is to pick a player returning soon from injury who may have been dropped and not yet be showing up on peoples radar. Logan Thomas should be due back this week and with RSJ sliding and a potential return for Ryan Fitzpatrick also on the cards, now is the time to grab him. He may be stashed on a lot of IR spots but if your league doesn’t have many of them then it’s worth a quick search.
