The Draft is in the books and the dust has settled. But how well did your team do in the first round?
We are taking a look back at every selection in the first round and giving you the lowdown on the pick; Was it a reach? Was it a steal? We’ll tell you and give you the impact for fantasy football….
Pick: 10th Overall
Player: Devin Bush
Drafted by: Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers made their move, jumping up ten spots to go up and get their boy, linebacker, Devin Bush out of Michigan.
Some might say that it’s a big jump and a bit of a reach and more so because it’s a top 10 linebacker but I don’t mind that the Steelers went and got their guy.
The reasons for this are as follows;
a) The Steelers gave up a second rounder this year and a third next… which is barely anything.
b) After Devin White went to Tampa, Bush was the only linebacker worthy of drafting (well, almost) and Pittsburgh have needed a presence in the middle of their defense with Ryan Shazier got injured
c) And this is the most important aspect… Devin Bush is a good football player and last I checked, the NFL draft is about adding good football players to your football team,
Good job Pittsburgh.
Bush is a smooth mover and can do some Shazier esque things in terms of his ability to cover sideline to sideline and make a lot of tackles. Bush could also be used as a blitzer since he showed some promise in this area whilst in Ann Arbor.
Bush also fills the void left by Shazier in coverage too and although he didn’t record any interceptions in college he has good coverage skills, which every defense wants in its’ linebackers in 2019.
Fantasy Football Impact:
Unless you’re an IDP player, Bush probably isn’t going to have much fantasy impact at all. However, if you in fact do respect defense and are in an IDP league, then you could probably look to draft Bush relatively early as I feel that he will rack up a high number of tackles, as well as get a few sacks and an interception or two, given his versatility and coverage skills.
