Helping you fly the flag

For the game.

Our Flying The Flag Scholarships are to help budding coaches and officials gain their relevant qualifications.

We understand that for coaches and officials, you do it for the love of the game and you do it because you want to. We want to encourage those that are interesting in taking either of these rewarding paths and make it just that bit more appealing.

Make sure you check the BAFCA and BAFRA websites for the latest information on courses, how to get involved and the people involved in the respective bodies.

Our Flying the Flag Scholarships

Referee qualification scholarships

Officials are real unsung heroes when it comes to leagues such as Britball in particular‭. ‬If it wasn’t for those prepared to line up in the black and white‭, ‬games wouldn’t run‭! ‬That’s why we find it so important to encourage and do what we can‭.‬

Scholarship recipients will have part of their qualifications‭ ‬with the British American Football Referees’‭ ‬Association paid for by‭ ‬Full10Yards‭ ‬as part of our commitment to‭ ‬give back to the British game both now‭ ‬and in‭ ‬the future‭.‬

We’ve been proud to support those wanting to gain their qualifications‭, ‬and look
forward to welcoming more and hearing their stories of how they break into Britball and beyond as the sport grows across the nation on the field as well as on the screen‭.‬

Coaching qualification scholarships

One of these programmes is our coaching scholarships for those looking to become the next Bill Belichek‭ [‬or enter another prestigous‭ / ‬record-breaking coach’s name here if preferred‭].‬

Scholarship recipients will have part of their Level 1‭ ‬or Level 2‭ ‬coaching qualifications‭ ‬with British American Football Coaches Association paid for by‭ ‬Full10Yards‭ ‬as part of our commitment to‭ ‬give back to the British game both now‭ ‬and in‭ ‬the future‭.‬

We’ve been proud to support those wanting to gain their qualifications‭, ‬and look
forward to welcoming more and hearing their stories of how they break into Britball and beyond as the sport grows across the nation on the field as well as on screen‭.‬

Laura Dye, Cheshire Bears – Level 1 BAFCA Coaching Assistant Head Coach

“I was approached by the Chester Romans Ladies (who are now known as the Cheshire Bears Women’s American Football Club) back in 2014 at a Liverpool Pride Event with a flyer inviting me to a Rookie day.

Since then I’ve been lucky enough to play for many teams in the UK and also represented Great Britain since 2015. Playing American Football has completely changed my life but I know I won’t be able to physically play at this level forever so I’ve decided to do my Level One Coaching course and start to really learn more about the game so that I can pass on my knowledge and experience to the future generation of football players in this country, especially women.

For anyone considering getting into American Football, all I can say is, just do it! There is a place for everyone no matter what shape, size and fitness level you’re at; everyone is always welcome.”

Dale Russell, Somerset Wyverns / Bath Spa Bulldogs – Level 2 BAFCA Coaching Course

“I started playing football in 2013 for Bath Spa Bulldogs and have stuck with them through the years from when I left I stepped in as a coach and never looked back.

Starting as just a positional coach I worked my way up to becoming the Defensive Co-ordinator which drove me to doing my Level 1. I just want to keep learning and improving hoping one day I can take over a team as their head coach. That is the reason I want to carry on up the ladder and complete my Level 2 as soon as possible.

I played all sports growing up but American football will always be the best in my eyes, a position for anyone and everyone. If you’re thinking about joining a Team I would highly recommend it.”

Jamie Phillips, Northants Knights/Phantoms – Coaching Courses

“I wanted to get into coaching due to age and recovery time after training sessions and games. Lockdown came just at the wrong time as well for me. I had planned to have 1 more playing year but then all games got cancelled and training postponed whilst in the pandemic.

I want to help get this sport into schools locally. Be that either after school clubs or even planned PE sessions. We have done a couple of fun taster sessions for schools in Northampton as they reached out to us. The Knights have just lowered their Junior age bracket so capturing young athletes early in schools to bring them into the Knights programmes would be fantastic. A lot of children follow the path of playing for a football or rugby club, it would be great to get some of them children into american football aswell.
