The one thing all of us fantasy players dread the most, injuries. Unfortunately, this is part and parcel with NFL life and it’s inevitable that at some point during the season one or more of your players will have the dreaded “questionable” or “doubtful” tags. The tricky bit is wading through the reports to find out the true status of your fantasy stud. Fantasy players are very often used as decoys when injured to fool defences, so it’s important that we’re sure that a player is 100% healthy before deploying into a line-up.
This article will take a look at the top injury concerns that we’re hearing about this week and provide a recommendation as to whether they should be starting for you or if you need to pick up their handcuff from the waiver wire.
Don’t forget to keep your #EyesPeeled for our Twitter feed (@F10YFantasy) this Sunday as we’ll be providing you with updated on the below mentioned injuries.
Top Injury Concern
Mike Gesicki – TE – Miami Dolphins
It’s been a late season resurgence for Mike Gesicki as him and Tua have clicked over the past few games. With 22 targets, 16 receptions, 188 receiving yards and 4 TDs in the past 3 outings, he’s been the TE3 in this time period and the TE5 on the season.
It’s a very tough matchup for Gesicki against the Patriots but, with the form that he is in, you’d have taken this risk. Who knows who will be playing running back for the Dolphins tomorrow and with DeVante Parker and Jakeem Grant questionable also, Gesicki could be in for a very big day if he plays.
Other Injury Concerns
James Conner – RB – Pittsburgh Steelers
It’s been a tough old season for Conner as he hasn’t found the end zone since week 8 and managed double digit fantasy points since then just once. Fantasy managers have continued to roll the dice with Conner after the second round pick that they invested into him at the start of the season. Him being sat will be the prompt that we finally needed to sit him from our fantasy teams.
Benny Snell Jr. and Jaylen Samuels will be next in line for the workload, but this could well be an ugly split with Anthony McFarland Jr. also vying for work. With Pittsburgh passing the ball 62.91% of the time (6th most in the NFL), I will likely be avoiding this backfield altogether this week.
Ronald Jones II – RB – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Now, those of you who listen to the podcast will know that this is a bittersweet for me. Firstly, it’s Fournette time and, considering that last week Rob pronounced me dead on the Fournette hill, I couldn’t be happier. On the flip, a running back is missing a game because of A FINGER INJURY! A fractured pinkie (seriously) is keeping RoJo off the field (OK, and being on COVID IR, too) which infuriates me. I’m a running back myself and can assure you that I do not get paid for the pleasure. I’ve been sidelined with a sprained knee and broken ribs but wouldn’t dream of sitting because of a broken pinkie.
It’s a shame for RoJo, he’s quietly amassed 900 rushing yards this season – enough to be fourth in the league. However, even in a tough matchup, Fournette becomes a starter this week – despite being a healthy scratch last week.
