**Updated 29/11 – 14:30 GMT/9:30 EST**
The one thing all of us fantasy players dread the most, injuries. Unfortunately, this is part and parcel with NFL life and it’s inevitable that at some point during the season one or more of your players will have the dreaded “questionable” or “doubtful” tags. The tricky bit is wading through the reports to find out the true status of your fantasy stud. Fantasy players are very often used as decoys when injured to fool defences, so it’s important that we’re sure that a player is 100% healthy before deploying into a line-up.
This article will take a look at the top injury concerns that we’re hearing about this week and provide a recommendation as to whether they should be starting for you or if you need to pick up their handcuff from the waiver wire.
Don’t forget to keep your #EyesPeeled for our Twitter feed (@F10YFantasy) this Sunday as we’ll be providing you with updated on the below mentioned injuries.
Top Injury Concern
Julio Jones – WR – Atlanta Falcons
UPDATE: Julio Jones is doubtful for today.
#Falcons WR Julio Jones (hamstring) is not expected to play today vs. the #Raiders, source said. Jones was not able to practice on Friday after being limited earlier in the week. Meanwhile, TE Hayden Hurst (ankle) should be good to go.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) November 29, 2020
Julio has clearly been battling with a hamstring injury for the majority of the season and he even sat out for part of the game against the Saints last weekend. Having been one of the best wideouts in the league for the past 6 or 7 years, there’s still certainly a role for Jones to play in this offense.
With a game of 157 yards, and 2 games of 137 yards, there’s no doubting that Julio can be a fantasy game winner and despite missing 2 games and having just 3 TDs on the season so far, Julio is the WR27 in PPR leagues. On a points per game basis, he ranks as the WR13.
If Julio plays, you have to start him. It’s a nice matchup against the Raiders and I certainly don’t want to see him hit triple yards yardage on my bench. If he doesn’t, Ridley, who doesn’t carry an injury designation for this game, becomes an absolute must start but, as we’ve seen in the absence of Jones/Ridley in previous weeks, the next best receiving option in this offense is far from clear – especially with Hayden Hurst questionable for this one, too.
Other Injury Concerns
Christian McCaffrey – RB – Carolina Panthers
UPDATE: Christian McCaffrey is OUT today.
Despite the questionable tag, it looks doubtful that CMC suits up in this one. CMC sought a second opinion last week in order to try and play but as the Panthers season has run away from them in the past few weeks, the incentive of risking further injury to CMC becomes less and less. That being said, we learnt last week that a Carolina injury designation can’t necessarily be taken as gospel!
If CMC sits, Mike Davis must start for your fantasy team. I say that despite the positive gamescript, the favourable matchup and Davis ‘only’ posting 15.9 points against the Lions last week. Bridgewater’s return should alleviate a little pressure from Davis and, in a middling matchup, you can still start with confidence.
49ers Running Backs – RB – San Francisco 49ers
UPDATE: Mostert, McKinnon and Wilson expected to play.
Mostert, McKinnon, Wilson Jr., Coleman and Hasty have all been the 49ers lead back this season and, just hours before kickoff, we still don’t know who will lead the backfield against the Rams. Mostert and Wilson have been designated to return from IR this week but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’ll suit up against the Rams – we will know by 4pm EST today (28/11).
Coleman has already been ruled out of this one with a knee injury and Hasty currently finds himself on IR with a broken collarbone. McKinnon doesn’t have an injury designation headed into the game which means he’ll split work with Wilson Jr., Mostert or both.
If Mostert is activated, he’ll start the game and receive the bulk of the work – he starts for your fantasy team. If Mostert misses and Wilson Jr. plays, Wilson Jr. will receive the bulk of the 1st and 2nd down work with McKinnon taking the 3rd down snaps. It’s been a fantasy minefield this season but we should have some clarification by this evening.
