Hey all, welcome in.
Another week in Britball world and we’ve managed to get to week number 8.
If you haven’t done so already, check out our interview with the East Kilbride Pirates HC Jamie McLaughlin as he reacts to their teams’ win over Edinburgh Wolves in week 7.
As at the current time of writing just the one game which has been cancelled which was known a week or so ago between the Worcestershire Black Knights and Bristol Aztecs.
We have one repeat fixture from last week, just a change in host as the Alphas will seek retribution for their 7-0 shutout loss to South Lincs. Lightning in week 7. *UPDATE* This game has been cancelled.
We also have a few other repeat fixtures, 2 weeks ago saw the Highland Stags travel to Dunfermline to claim victory, this time Dunfermline do the travelling up to Invergordon to play the Highland Stags in the Saltire Division. Staying in the division, we see Clyde Valley and Dumfries say hello to the 2021 season as they do battle down in the South West of Scotland. 2019 saw a Clyde Valley victory and a draw between the 2 sides.
One of the fixtures so far this season saw the Merseyside Nighthawks and Chester Romans play out a classic and they do battle again this week in Chester. More of the same please! Anything near the 49-40 we got last time and the spectators (provided they are allowed) will all get their money’s worth.
Shropshire take their unbeaten record so far this season to Tamworth, also unbeaten in 2021. I’d be very surprised if Shropshire are the ones leaving with their unbeaten record in tact, however. That game may be covered by Onside productions, but cant see a link as of yet, watch our socials for a link come nearer the weekend.
The London Hornets face off in the Thames Valley against the impressive Wembley Stallions. Fancy Wembley to take this one judged off of 2021 form. It was the Hornets though that won both games back in 2019… Hornets 1-3 thus far and Stallions 3-0-1.
Rushmoor Knights will look to bounce back from a disappointing defeat when they host the Sussex Thunder, who themselves have had a tough time of it this year. Had a few weeks off so let’s see if Sussex have been able to muster anything whilst away. All teams chasing Solent in that division.
Talkin of Solent, a cross divisional game which could be a cracker sees Solent host the London Olympians. Olympians travel down to the South Coast and is one i was was being streamed. I’ll take Solent for the win.
Ouse Valley host the Cambridgeshire Cats who have been going great guns. I expect a Cats victory here judged off of this year;’s results. Cambridgeshire also took the two meetings back in 2019, 1 via a walkover and one by 48-0 scoreline. Possible wide margin of the week contender.
Same comments apply for the Yorkshire Rams, who’ll look to get the job done against Knottingley. Raiders the hosts for that one who have had 2 difficult fixtures so far this year against the Giants and Mustangs, scoring just 8 points.
The South East Squadron got off the mark at the first time of asking against the Sussex Thunderbolts in week 7 21-0, and they host Essex Spartans in what will be a steep step up in competition. Can the relatively new team go in with no fear and push Essex? We’ll have to wait and see, I think they’ll score some points, but Essex should have too much.
Gateshead should have too much for DC Presidents in the Hadrians division, DC coming off a few weeks rest. Gateshead won the corresponding fixture earlier in the season 44-0 as they sit second at 2-1 behind Northumberland.
Interesting game between the Somerset Wyverns and the Jurassic Coast Raptors. Probably fancy the Wyverns to take it but Jurrasic Coast coming in on a 2 game winning streak after their 2 games against Torbay, including a hard fought battle last week.
Another game in which could be a decent matchup is the Crewe Railroaders up against the Staffordshire Surge. The two teams know each other well enough from 2019, where Staffordshire took both games by 7 and 20 points so may be a close one there.
South Wales Warriors were valiant in defeat against the Birmingham Bulls last week and they now host the Swindon Storm in what could be the contender for a tie if I were to pick one fixture that would be a tie. Storm have recorded 3 wins since their opening game defeat to Bristol and probably head in as favourites for this one.
Nice quick round up ahead of week 8. Don’t forget any photographers out there, i’m looking for your best snaps as we look to give you guys a bit of love too.
I’m off to the middle of nowhere, aka the middle of Scotaldn for some R and R. Will be back next week with hopefully another interview.
