Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd June – By Thomas Rowberry
Week 9 of the BAFA National Leagues saw 18 games take place across the weekend with the Tamworth Phoenix, Leicester Falcons, Aberdeen Roughnecks and Yorkshire Rams kicking off the weekend’s action on Saturday. In their previous encounter on opening day the Rams were on the end of a 42-point shutout against the Roughnecks, this week following a strong defensive performance they managed to return the favour (yes that scoreline is correct! Straight out of our football, that one!).
Sundays action saw a further three shutouts with the London Warriors, Solent Thrashers and Portsmouth Dreadnoughts all holding their opponents to zero points. In what is becoming a regular occurrence there were more blowouts than close games throughout the three tiers of the game with 12 games being decided by more than one score. We did however get a tie with the Ipswich Cardinals and Norwich Devils battling to a 31-31 deadlock in a thriller that saw the lead change multiple times in the 4th qtr.
