Summer Positional Top 5 Rankings; Defense

Hello again! Hope you all enjoyed the offensive rankings yesterday… if you missed it, well first off, WHY?!

Nevermind, we all have stuff to be doing on a Sunday evening. Here’s the link so you don’t have to look;

Today it’s the turn of the defense. Let’s get straight down to it shall we?

Edge Defenders

  1. Chase Young, Ohio State
  2. A.J Epenesa, Iowa
  3. Yetur Gross-Matos, Penn State
  4. Jabari Zuñiga, Florida
  5. Curtis Weaver, Boise State

I feel that one of the hottest indirect battles throughout the season will be Chase Young vs. A.J Epenesa to be the top edge rusher in the nation. Yetur Gross-Matos means the B1G is the place to be for pass rushers in 2019.

One quick note on Chase Young… I actually find it really hard to watch offensive players on tape who are playing against Ohio State because I cannot keep my eyes off of #2 for the Buckeyes.

Interior Defensive Line

  1. Reakwon Davis, Alabama
  2. Derrick Brown, Auburn
  3. Javon Kinlaw, South Carolina
  4. Rashard Lawrence, LSU
  5. Lorenzo Neal Jr, Purdue

Raekwon Davis and Derrick Brown are the class of this position for me. I think Davis would have been a first rounder had he come out last season but alas we get to see him play in some of college football’s biggest games again this year… That worked out pretty well for Christian Wilkins.

Linebackers

  1. Dylan Moses, Alabama
  2. Isaiah Simmons, Clemson
  3. Troy Dye, Oregon
  4. Paddy Fisher, Northwestern
  5. Shaq Quarterman, Miami

Alabama is just a linebacker factory isn’t it? Dylan Moses just seems like another one off the production line.

Isaiah Simmons is another one who I really like and I’m looking forward to seeing more of him in 2019.

Fisher and Quarterman are a pair of players who garnered a little bit of buzz last season but made the correct call to go back and get another year’s worth of experience under their belts.

Cornerbacks

  1. Bryce Hall, Virginia
  2. Kristian Fulton, LSU
  3. C.J Henderson, Florida
  4. Trevon Diggs, Alabama
  5. Jaylon Johnson, Utah

I’ve already said my piece on Bryce Hall in my Draft Déjà Vu article. He is *good*.

Get that article right here ; https://full10yards.com/2019/06/11/draft-deja-vu-byrce-hall/

Some people will tell you that thanks to Kristian Fulton, Greedy Williams was actually the second best corner and third best defensive back at LSU last year.

C.J Henderson is another guy I can’t wait to see more off.

Diggs (Brother of Vikings receiver Stefon) is another talented corner as is Johnson from Utah. This is looking like a nice group after a down year last year.

Safeties

  1. Grant Delpit, LSU
  2. Richie Grant, Central Florida
  3. J.R Reed, Georgia
  4. Xavier McKinney, Alabama
  5. Julian Blackmon, Utah

Some will correctly tell you that no matter about Greedy or Kristian Fulton, Grant Delpit was the best DB for the Tigers last season and that’s why he will now wear the legendary #7 jersey in Death Valley next year.

He’s head and shoulders above the rest of this safety class for me and probably one of the best players in the class.

Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for these rankings to be updated throughout the college football season.
